Travel with Prime Jet Services to Cairo and the Rest of the World

Cairo Airport is built on the foundations of an Allied airfield built to support the war effort against Nazi Germany during the Second World War. Today, it is the second busiest airport on the entire continent of Africa, second only to the airport in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Cairo Airport is the gateway into Egypt for millions upon millions of passengers. If you are planning on flying commercially, this airport has two commercial terminals that are well-equipped to handle your flight and get you into the city of Cairo as soon as possible.

HISTORY

Founded on the former airfield built by Allied engineers during the Second World War, the Cairo Airport has since grown much larger than its origins as a military airfield. In 1963, the Cairo International Airport officially opened.

As it grew throughout the years, the Cairo Airport added new terminals to keep up with the influx in passengers. Today, this airport has three terminals with a fourth seasonal terminal available that is only available for part of the year.

ATTRACTIONS IN CAIRO

The most popular tourist attraction for most tourists to Egypt, the Great Pyramids of Giza rise in the desert as a testament to the civilization of the Ancient Egyptians. Within this cluster, there are three primary pyramids, built for the rulers Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure. Note that only three hundred tickets are available each day to visit the Pyramids and the adjacent Great Sphinx, so the availability of this attraction is highly limited. Although not a part of Cairo itself, the Great Pyramids are only located eleven miles away from downtown Cairo, making them accessible for most visitors to the city. You can travel to the Pyramids via tour bus or taxi; public transportation does not connect the Pyramids with Cairo itself. If you are able to secure tickets, the trip to see one of the original Seven Wonders of the World is well worth it.

If you prefer to stay inside Cairo itself, the Coptic old city of Cairo. The winding streets of this part of Cairo hearken back to its days before the foundation of Islam when Cairo remained a Christian city. Indeed, the Coptic Church still exists in some form today—for travelers who wish to learn more about it, the Coptic Museum is an excellent choice. Even if you are not a religious visitor, this section of the city is fascinating based solely on the sheer volume of history contained within it. You can get to this quarter of the city via the Cairo Metro or on a dedicated tour bus.

If you are still in the mood for visiting other parts of the city, Islamic Cairo is another must. Although, as mentioned above, Cairo was previously a Christian city, it converted to Islam over a thousand years ago. The consequence is that all of its modern history has been dominated by the role of Islam in the city. Within this quarter of the city, tourists have had great experiences in visiting the bazaar of Khan El-Khalili and the Salah El-Din Citadel. The architecture of the Islamic part of Cairo is also distinct from that of the Coptic quarter of the city. For anyone interested in the long history of Cairo as a city, visiting both of these neighborhoods of the city is a must.
